Center for Children’s Advocacy attorney Marisa Halm, Director of the Center’s Youth Justice Project, spoke to CTNewsJunkie.com about the current state of the recent settlement agreement with the state over the need for education and mental health services at Manson Youth Institution (MYI).

In June, the Center and two other advocacy groups entered into a settlement agreement with the state after reports of education and mental health services at MYI had been cut during the COVID-19 pandemic. The settlement agreement requires MYI to provide incarcerated youth with in-person education and mental health services.

“As laid out very clearly in the Department of Justice report, we remain concerned about the cell confinement and access to programming and we remain concerned about access to appropriate mental health programming, especially in light of the pandemic,” said Attorney Halm.
