Home / Center for Children’s Advocacy Statement in Response to the Chauvin Verdict
April 21, 2021
Our justice system delivered a victory last night in the Derek Chauvin trial, holding Chauvin liable for the murder of George Floyd. This victory is a first step, albeit a small one, in combatting structural racism. The Center for Children’s Advocacy celebrates this historic victory. It paves the way for police reform and increased police accountability. At the same time, we pause to honor Floyd’s memory and to reflect upon the work that still needs to be done. We acknowledge that pause must only be momentary.
The Center for Children’s Advocacy advocates for equity and justice for all of the children and youth we represent, children and youth of color, who, every single day, are treated unjustly by the systems meant to protect them. We fight to break down the barriers our clients face in their individual cases, but, more importantly, across the systems that serve them. We identify practices and patterns that perpetuate inequities.
In solidarity with our brothers and sisters of color, and in respectful memory of George Floyd, we stand poised to continue the work to end systemic racism
